Sony RX100 M5

I have always loved taking pictures and videos and do it for fun as well as professionally. While there are great DSLR and mirrorless cameras out there, I know that especially big DSLRs can be very heavy and difficult to carry around all the time. If you are looking for a good camera that creates great content but is compact and easy to use on the daily, I would definitely recommend the Sony RX100 M5. Here you can get a pretty sweet deal with all the accessories you may need.

I have had this camera for several months now and am very happy with it. I still do use my other cameras but the best part of this one is for me that it is so small and I can fit it into any bag, even a small little cross over bag.

Features

  • 20.1 MP
  • Video in 4K UHD 2160p
  • 2.9x optical zoom
  • Dimensions: 10.3 x 8.3 x 4.7 in
  • 0.05 autofocus speed
  • 24fps continuous shooting
  • super slow motion up to 960fps (40x normal shooting)
  • 180 degree tilt-able LED screen

Why get this camera?

For me the size definitely played a big role but also the other features were perfect for me. I wanted a camera especially for filming videos and for on the go photos instead of using my phone or bringing a big bag with me. If you film YouTube videos or vlogs, this camera is great with it’s tilt-able screen and very good and fast autofocus. You can do so many shots in slow motion and with an aperture of as low as 1.4. It is perfect for traveling as well as you can easily stow it in your backpack or carry on without wasting too much space. A nice thing is also that you can send your pictures straight to your phone when you downloaded the app.

When I compared it to the other popular compact camera Canon Powershot, I was very undecided at first because the Sony Cybershot is much more expensive. However, the Sony rx100 V offers the 4k video resolution and much much better autofocus! Those two factors were the most important ones that made me decide on the Sony compact camera.

Ease Of Use

I do have to say that you have to sit down and explore all the option that this camera gives you. You might need to find and get used to easily find specific things you want to do but I found it very useful to change some of the shortcuts in order to get to specific buttons that I want faster. For example, I changed the trash can button to lead me directly to the application list in order to transfer pictures via WiFi directly to my phone.

It is also pretty easy for beginners to shoot in manual because the screen shows you how the picture will turn out and you can make adjustments from there. You should still be familiar with ISO, shutter speed and aperture but this makes it really easy to learn and understand.

What else do I need?

Since you probably want to shoot high quality pictures and videos, you want to have a fast SD card that also has a lot of space, I would suggest at least 32GB.

Also, you might want to get a grip to mount the camera on since it is very small and light.

Lastly, for videos I suggest getting little microphone windscreens that you put on top of the camera where the microphones. Outside and in windy conditions the microphones pick up a lot of the noise and it is better to have these while filming!

Overall I have been extremely happy with this purchase and have recommended it to friends as well looking for an easy and good camera to use. The fact that it produces high quality content for such a small camera screams value to me.
